Durnan on "Wordpress relevancy for a specific website / multiple subdomains and data"

Hello everybody,

I have a specific website to develop and was wondering if WordPress was the right choice.

On this website, I have some groups of customers on one hand, with some specific trees of data to be used by, on the other hand, a lot of companies who publish data as well on some products.

Each group of customer has its own webpages with a totally different layout for each group (each group of customer accessing the website through its subdomain (group1.foobar.com, group2.foobar.com, ...). Data displayed on these groups come both from a set belonging to the local group and another set belonging to the main website (www.foobar.com)

Each company has an access both on the subdomains and main domain of foobar.com and can filter the information available to customer groups per subdomain.

I was wondering if WordPress was the right choice to develop such a website. I have seen the "Multisite" feature of WordPress but it doesn't seem to cover my needs (I need to have shared data between subdomains and main domain and for what I've understood, the Multisite feature cannot handle this). Moreover, as I have several pages for each group/subdomain, I'm afraid I have to handle group_1/page_1..group_n/page_n) pages.

So to ask the question again, do you think I can develop easily a website having such features with WordPress?
