NellyW on "[Plugin: LifterLMS] Free portion of course, mark complete"

@NellyW,

I can see how this would be useful and you are mostly correct that it is not possible. But if you think about it a bit differently, this is possible.

First off, free lessons let non-logged in users read the content of a lesson, since they're not logged in we have no way of knowing who they are and then we can't record the "completion" without a user to associate that completion with. This is kind of arguable, we could try to store the completion on the user's machine with local storage or a cookie or something, but this has the potential to be inaccurate.

So, for general purposes, we *need* a user. Even if we did add the ability to mark lessons as complete, the user would still NEED to be registered in order for us to record the completion (and award an achievement or do anything else).

I'd recommend making your entire course free, which will require registration. This will allow you to do all the things you want to do. Perhaps, if the registration is a sticking point, you could have a free course with the first lesson free. Make this a small introductory course and make it a pre-req for another course (which can be paid). That way you can use your course for leadgen with a low cost of entry to your users. You can award them along the way during the free course, and then entice them into the rest of the course, which is another paid course.

Hope that helps,
