Does PayPal Money Expire?

Hey there, I have had a PayPal account for about 2 years now and this happened a long time ago but I never really thought anything of it because I thought maybe PayPal money would expire if not used in a long time. Anyways, I had gotten $3, I know it isn't much but I just wanna be safe for when I get my next deposit of $100, and I didn't use it for months and then I went on one day and it was gone. How could this have happened? I read online but it said PayPal never charges fees to buy stuff...
