Hi, I rely quite a bit on document sharing for the group. However most of us use either Rich Text Format or Open Office so that anyone can easily read and download the material.
Is there a way to increase the document types that we are able to upload?

Thank you for asking.
Yes, you can easily allow any file type. Please take a look at the media type settings in general tab as shown here
http://buddydev.com/mediapress/topics/getting-started/settings-options/general-settings/#type

Make sure you keep the documents enabled and below that you can set the file types(extensions).

If you only need document type for groups, you can disable it from component pages for other components(users, sitewide).

We have included the google doc viewer with MediaPress that allows almost all file type to be easily viewable.

pdf doesn't work for me (extension pdf is added). The notification I receive is that the file type is not allowed for security reasons. This is very strange, because I have already two pdfs uploaded with the beta version.

Are you on multisite? I have seen it happening in some of the multisites. Please visit Network Admin->Settings and make sure to add the extension there. Does that fixes it?

No, I am not on multisite and, unfortunately, I cannot figure out the source of the problem. Could it be a conflict with another plugin? (I have about 40 plugins ...)

I deactivated that portfolio (searching for a solution) and it works.

Thank you. I will take a look at the portfolio plugin in a day or two and will let you know.

Well, finally, that portfolio is not a priority for me now. But it is a promissing portfolio with buddypress integration, so it was important to report the conflict with the doc component of Mediapress. After deactivation of the portfolio, all file types I added to that component work well.
