Hi all,

I'm having a hard time editing my site outside the boundaries of WordPress.com and would like to do further things such as add coding in order to make my thumbnails show within my "next post" and "previous post" area.

I've installed XAMPP and WordPress 4.5 with the help of YouTube, but cannot for the LIFE of me figure out how to use it effectively. I've gotten to the stage of setting up my database and then typing in "localhost/wordpress" into my address bar.

At the moment my localhost is showing a BRAND NEW site, even though it is logged into my WordPress.com site. Can someone help me get to the state where I am able to take my current website and edit it using code/ plugins etc.

WordPress.COM and your own installation (localhost or otherwise) isn't connected and are very different. On WordPress.COM you can't install themes or plugins so doing something on your own installation and then trying to make the WordPress.COM version work probably wont.

If you need assistance with WordPress.COM then you're posting in the wrong place and need to ask in the correct forum.

Yes it was indeed a tad bit of confusion. I've now managed to do all the things needed and even leat how to use Dreamweaver CC with XAMPP HOO-ray!
