Tara on "Downgrading from 4.5"

I upgraded a working 4.4.2 installation to 4.5, which broke things in my Media Library. I've searched for solutions, and see similar issues to mine but not my issue reported. I've posted my issue to the Forum, but need to find a resolution soon and am considering downgrading to 4.4.2 again while this is worked out.

I've read posts about how to do a downgrade, and see conflicting information about how easy and how risky it is. I have a backup from just before my upgrade, but have never had to restore from a backup either.

My question is simple: Can I simply use FTP to replace the files in the root directory (save wp_config.php), wp-admin, and wp-includes, and let WordPress "update" my database, as many suggest? Perhaps disabling all of my plugins first? Or do I need to wipe everything and also drop the database and install the database backup? Or is there a 4.5.1 coming soon and I should wait?
