Worpress automatically updated my website last night to the newest version and after that I get the following message when I go to the site or try and login: Error establishing a database connection.

Please help!!!

I got an "Error establishing a database connection" message today out of the blue without modifying anything related to my website after the 4.5.1 update. In my case it was due to the remote MySQL server somehow going offline. Maybe it had nothing to do with 4.5.1. update, or maybe it did.

After that happened, I tried to log into either MySQL Databases or phpMyAdmin (in cPanel) and cPanel showed an error message: "The MySQL server is currently offline." I waited 5-10 minutes and it came back online, and things resumed normally.

Try waiting a few minutes. See what happens first.

I'm getting similar today after the update but I have 6 plus site under the same server, all very similar, and only two have gone down with the same error. I tried accessing phpMyAdmin and it's saying #2003 - The server is not responding when I try access it. On two refreshes (I've been doing this a lot) I managed to get into the backend of one of the sites. I also got a time out error on a couple of occasions on the other site. I'm just confused by it all. It's been like this for an hour or so now, that I know of, but I will wait it out I guess. Fingers crossed.
