Jonathan on "[Plugin: The Events Calendar] Month view only shows all day events??"

Does the month view really only show all day events??
no, seriously?
I'm trying WordPress 4.5.1 and the most basic themes eg twenty-sixteen and events simply appear and disappear from the monthly calendar depending on whether the "All Day Event" flag is checked or not.
Worse that that, there is no indication on the month view that there is any event at all that day, no way to zoom into the daily view.
I can't see any setting anywhere that would explain these events being hidden - any ideas?
