I have an hourly database backup scheduled with WP-cron. Yet when I check the dropbox folder where the backups go and I check the logs. It appears the job ran for 3-4 hours and just stopped.

How many Traffic did you Webseite have? The WordPress Cron needs website visits so that it can work. You can set up a cron job by your hoster if you not have enoth traffic for that. Manuales to donig that are many on the web.

You don't need information from BackWPup. Set up a cronjob for wp-cron.php that runs all 5 minutes.
