Hi, the plugin sounds like just what I need.
Only the "View" option is visible, allowing me to navigate through the tree. I need to be able to "Edit", am I missing something ?

The menu items are the edit links already!
All you need to do is click haha.

It's default an edit link, with extra option to view only.
Though you're right, maybe I need to make it a bit clearer like with a hover title or something.

For me, when I click it navigates me to the live page, doesn't open it in the editor

What are your permalinks set to?

Day and name.

And I do apologise, I feel like a complete lemon with it not working for me.
I honestly don't know how I could install it in a way that it views rather than edits
