Hi, I've tried making my main page using the "home template"

I've added images, but nothing shows when I preview?

What am I doing wrong?

I know it might sound a bit stupid, but are you sure you have published the page? :) And also make sure your front page is set to the page you just made. Navigate to Administration > Settings > Reading panel. Set Front page displays to a static page. In the drop down menu for Front Page select the page you just made. In the drop down menu for Posts page select "Blog" or the name you created, or leave it blank if you will not feature posts on the site. Save changes.
