Hi, my goal is to create a user populated custom taxonomy that can display on the user profiles. Basically, if they type in a term that has not yet been added to the taxonomy... they will have the functionality to add it.

Is that something XProfile supports with its custom taxonomy fields?

This is not possible right now. I believe I've answered this question some time here. The only solution right now is to code it using javascript and a normal text field...

If I have more time I will add it some day but right now I'm out of time. Sorry.
