The Product category widget, when "shown as a drop down" option is selected, will display subcategories as well as parent categories. Is there a way that I can only have it list parent categories?

If you 'only show children of current', subcats are hidden.

That doesn't appear to be the case when you also choose the option "Show as dropdown". The idea is that Show as Drop Down would only show parent categories.
