I have a FREE wordpress site (islandkerri.wordpress.com) and have two questions.

1) Is the site being backed up anywhere? If so how does that work and how would I restore if it there was an issue?

2) I am extremely frustrated with trying to figure WordPress free out. Is there any place that a beginner's guide exist for leaing how to use it?

Due to the differences between the free hosted blogs offered at wordpress.com and the self-hosted and self-installed version of WordPress supported here, you should probably ask WordPress.com Support instead.

Get WordPress for Dummies. It really helped me in the beginning and there must be thousands of uTube videos out there.

WordPress.com does not directly offer backups, but you can export your site's content (just the text content, not the media) following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

They store their own backups of the entire WordPress.com system though, so if some catastrophe were to happen, they could restore your site, but the backups really aren't available for situations where you accidentally delete a post or something like that.

WordPress.com has a bit of a beginner's guide at https://lea.wordpress.com

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

WordPress.com has complete documentation and support contacts at https://support.wordpress.com/
