Meniyka on "[Plugin: Blubrry PowerPress Podcasting plugin] *Some Podcasts in iTunes getting cut off"

ساخت وبلاگ

Hi,

I noticed some of my podcasts in iTunes are cut off. For an example, if you listen to my latest podcast it cuts off on iTunes, but not on my website page: kiravell.com/guest-healers-series/et-contact/

So the source files on my website play all the way through. Do you know what the problem could be? For instance is there some setting I'm missing in Powerpress?

Here is my info:

Your Podcast Title: Vibrational Sciences
The iTunes Store URL:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/kiravells-vibrational-science/id894228127?mt=2
The RSS Feed URL: http://kiravell.com/feed/podcast/

Thank you,
~Meniyka

There are 3 situations that can cause this.

  • Podcast Media hosting issues. See our Podcast hosting requirements page for help
  • Variable Bit Rate in mp3. See our mp3 tips page for help
  • File size in feed does not match mp3. Last year we had a podcaster replacing the media files on the server that had this issue because the file size no longer matched what was in PowerPress. If this is the case for you, go to the blog post in question and edit. Scroll to the episode entry box, click the modify checkbox, click "Verify" then save the post. This will update PowerPress with the latest file size information.

I did a quick check of your website and I think (not 100% sure) you are using CloudFlare. If that's the case, then that's more than likely the issue. Their system is not designed to serve very large files such as podcast episodes.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the response. I had my developer disable the catching of CloudFlare and there is no change as far as I can tell so far. Maybe he has to completely remove it? I also checked for the VBR in mp3 and I'm not enabling that so it is not that.

I did discover something interesting though. It's a problem with the way the file is being played back and read on the server. Because when I download the file from the server/webpage- it's fully in tact and plays correctly, but when I stream it in the media library or from my web page with the wordpress audio playe- it cuts off about a minute of the file. The ID3 tags are correct and so is all the meta data associated with the file in the media library, but again when I try to play it from the server without downloading it- it is 'read' as a minute less than it really is. This is the story with nearly all of my podcasts as far as I can tell.

Any ideas? I'm at a loss:(

It's possible that the server delivering the media files isn't properly configured to handle byte-range requests. This is required for media to stream properly. Might be worth checking with whomever's hosting the files to ensure that the server is configured properly.

I just checked your feed URL, it is still going through CloudFlare. I used http://web-sniffer.net/. I entered your feed URL http://kiravell.com/feed/podcast/ then click submit. In the retued headers I see the following which indicates that CloudFlare is intercepting the page...

Server: cloudflare-nginx

Thanks for your help. It tuned out to be the byte range request/http heading stuff that iTunes originally told me was likely the problem. I changed from wordpress hosting to cpanel and the problem is solved. Hopefully this helps someone else:)
