Responsive Menu on "[Plugin: Responsive Menu] Menu always visible - Problems after 3.0.7 Update"

ساخت وبلاگ

Hi,

I have lot of problems with website using your responsive menu. After the latest upgrade many website showing the original menu and the responsive menu at the same time.

As I'am using your menu as a standard this affects many websites.

e.g:
http://friseur-blackandblond.de/
http://logopaedie-keck.de/
http://orthopaedie-dingolfing.de/

Is there a workflow to get rid of this problem? In a way that upcoming upgrades of the responsive menu (3.0.8, 3.0.9) does not effect the website a second time.

Best
Jürgen

Hi Jurgen,

Do you have any caching plugins installed in WordPress? Ive only seen this when they are installed and means you will need to refresh your WordPress cache.

Please let me know if that is the cause.

Hi,

This affects websites with and without cache plugins installed.

I found out that after a log in into the backend the error dissapeared.

Unfortunately, I have over 100 websites with your menu installed.

Why does the error dissapears after a normal log in?
Do I have to push the "Update Options" button to be save for upcoming updates?

Jürgen

Hey Jurgen,

Ok yes that makes sense as the plugin needs to update itself. Currently this is only done via the admin as I dont like things like that to be run on the front end as it will effect peoples site page loads.

You dont need to hit Update Options but you do need to be in the admin like you said for it to update itself.

Hi,

I think it would be a great relief to have this running on the front. A lot of web designers/developers are using your menu plugin as a default in all their installations.

In addition to this, many people using an automatic updates processes
like https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/stops-core-theme-and-plugin-updates/ which allows to update their websites automatically.

In my case I have to spend hours to get rid of the error. Do you have an alteative way to do this with a lot of websites?

Jürgen

Hi Jurgen,

I agree and disagree with you on this. I agree it would be more user friendly to have it run on the front end to avoid these issues but at the same time it is a one-off process so not something that needs to run all the time.

Adding this check to the front end will add in another un-necessary database call to the front end of peoples sites on every single page load (as it needs to check the current plugin version against the one in the database) which is beyond ideal.

Ill have a think and see if there is any common middleground on this but I would also quickly say that blindly updating plugins without checking their results is also not a good way to go about updating things and goes against most web development best practices.

Hi,

is there really no way to implemenet a solution which fires once during the plugin update process - in this case no front process or backend login would be necessary.

If you imagine you have 120 Websites you have to login in order to get rid of a plugin update problem. Not nice.

Jürgen

Hi Jurgen,

Unfortunately not - there is an activation action fired by WordPress but this doesn't get called on upgrades - only on initial activation unfortunately :-(

However, I have played with a few things and think I have a solution that will fire on the front end but wont be resource intensive.

It is on the beta branch at the moment but will test it thoroughly and hopefully will be pushed with the next release.

Thanks for the idea!

Hi,

this would be great. Thanks a lot.

Jürgen

If you want to hold off updating your other sites until tonight I can give you the beta version to test if youd like to see if it fixes the issue?

Hi,

thanks a lot. It works fine now. After the latest update no need to login in the admin is needed.

I will support you buying a pro version.

Best,
Jürgen

Hey Jurgen,

Thanks very much for your confirmation on this and for your support of the project.

If you need anything else in future please let me know!
