Timing the home renovation market?

My question is, when is the best time to start? I'm not in a big hurry, and if I can save money by waiting, I'm happy to wait. How long do you think the current surge in demand will last? Will it go down soon? Are contractors starting to cope with the backlog, or is the situation only getting worse? With visual software use for it? With the best?
