"Your blog doesn't currently qualify for AdSense." What can I do?

I have a blog on Blogger since October, I still can't qualify.
I want to start making an income from my blog so my question is: should I start affiliate programs and look for alteative ways? Someone told me that if I have affiliate links on my blog I won't able to qualify for Adsense. My blog is about books and book reviews, is that even a subject google Adsense usually approves?
Should I wait a couple more months to see if I will have the option to qualify?
