What's this guest posting phenomenon?

I have lurked into FB groups and their seems a complete revolution since old days. There are literally thousands of people promoting guest posting.

What I understand is that it's basically an article posting on mostly a content farm type websites.

But people are advertising homepage DA but buyers don't ask for homepage links. It's kind of shift from few years back.

But I doubt if this strategy works.

What are your views?
