My early success doing SEO

Okay, so I am a total noob when it comes to SEO. I have made many sites in the past but they all failed because I lacked SEO skills.

I asked a question on this forum how to get backlinks. Somebody recommended Medium.com

I posted an article on Medium. At first I didn't get any views. But when I posted a link to a relevant subreddit that's when I saw early success. Somebody thanked me for sharing my experience and that made my day.
