Please read the pied post with the title "update error".
I assume your hosting is using an outdated PHP version (5.3 or earlier).

PHP 5.4 is needed by some components of the plugin.
Everyone with such an experience who reported this went back online after upgrading PHP (which is recommended for several security reasons as well).
